ACTIVITY OVERVIEW

In this activity we will:

  • Practice whole number addition and subtraction in a game scenario.

This is a great way to practice addition and subtraction. This application.  This application has a built-in review of basic operations and then a game for practice of the operations.


  
Press the key and arrow to Math by Hand on your calculator.  Press  to start the app and then press twice  to get to the menu at the right. no alt text supplied
Select the addition operation by pressing .  Again, you will see a menu like the one on the right. no alt text supplied
The Step-by-Step menu does what its name says-it walks you through each step and explains it.  Fast Math shows you the process quickly with no explanation. For either one, you enter a problem you want to see.  An example of Fast Math is on the right. You can press the BACK softkey to get back to the menu. no alt text supplied
On the menu, arrow to 3 Missing Pieces and press .  You will be given a problem with missing numbers.  Determine the missing numbers and arrow to the missing places and type in the correct numbers. When you are done, press . no alt text supplied
If you are correct, the calculator will tell you.  If you are incorrect, it will also tell you. Some problems might have multiple answers, depending on how many places are missing. no alt text supplied
By pressing back several times, you can reach the menu that has operations.  Once you have practiced addition so you feel confident, you can now tackle subtraction.

The subtraction menu is set up the same way. The same three choices are available.
