| In this activity, students will use the Number Line application to investigate adding positive and negative integers. For the first problem, students will add only positive integers. They are introduced to the concept of "number rays" or vectors to represent the operation of addition. | |
| In the second problem students will add only negative integers. They will also investigate adding a negative integer and a positive integer. Lastly, students see how opposite integers always have a sum of 0. | |
| After determining patterns for the addition of integers, students are encouraged to develop mental arithmetic strategies and practice using them with the additional problems given on the worksheet. |
